KV Mechelen presents a unique football spectacle, Middenstip, in Vrijbroekpark on June 3 and 4. Over a hundred players, actors, musicians and volunteers bring a total experience of theater, music and absurd situations. The spectacle kicks off the five-day Broekfestival of kunstencentrum nona. "We start from the interests of our players and that is football this year," says Maya Versteele, coordinator of Stamppot, the social-artistic work of kunstencentrum nona. On the grass fields of Vrijbroekpark, a complete stadium decor rises with tribunes, large LED screens, a 35x25 meter playing field and space for 500 spectators per evening. "Middenstip is a football spectacle. It is a total experience of theater, music and absurd situations." Together with Wijzersterk, a day work for young adults with a disability, the organization has been working on the project for months. In addition to players from Stamppot and Wijzersterk, Mechelse associations, musicians and actors from theater company Abattoir Fermé are also involved in the spectacle. Notable name on the poster is KV Mechelen legend Piet den Boer, who takes on KSK Wavria during the performance. Also, director Maja Westerveld emphasizes that the audience does not need to expect a classic football match. "Everything will be different than you think," she says. "You will see things that you normally never see during a regular football match." Middenstip gives the kick-off of the Broekfestival of kunstencentrum nona on June 3. On the program are performances by Femke & Lander Gyselinck, Jan Martens and Lisa Vereertbrugghen. Visitors can also visit the summer bar Café Jardin every day. Middenstip is only visible twice. Tickets and more information can be found on the website of TheaterArsenaal.
