KV Mechelen's Simion Michez has set his sights on a Belgium national team call-up. The 24-year-old wingback aims to impress coach Mark van Bommel after a challenging spell in the Czech Republic.

Michez completed his move to Malinwa at the end of August, having failed to make a breakthrough at Slavia Prague and during a loan at Sigma Olomouc. He has featured three times for the club, including starts against Anderlecht and Lommel SK. For a side sitting 18th in the Jupiler Pro League with three points from seven games, his contribution is needed.

"When I look at the Red Devils, I've played with or against half of those guys and I know: that's my level," Michez said. He added that his place is there. His ambition is to become one of the best wingbacks in the competition and earn a selection.

The player, who came through the Anderlecht academy and moved via Beerschot to the Czech Republic, describes his time there as a lost half-year. He felt isolated and struggled mentally after an injury. "Nothing can break me. I know I'm ready to fight back," he stated. Now he wants to enjoy football again and inspire others facing setbacks.

At KV Mechelen, he must help turn results around. The team plays at home against St. Truiden, who are 11th in the table, on Sunday. The last five league matches have yielded no wins. The full standings and squad are available on this site. Michez, who played as a right wingback in a 3-4-2-1 against Lommel, will be looking to open his account soon.
