With five games left, KV Mechelen is in sixth place in the Jupiler Pro League and benefits from the tandem of Bouke Boersma and Myron van Brederode. The team of trainer Frederik Vanderbiest knows that every match counts in the fight for the top six. In the selection of Mechelen, several Dutch players play a role. Technical director Tom Caluwé brought defender Tommy St. Jago to Belgium earlier, a player he knew from his period at Willem II. Through his past in Tilburg, Caluwé is well connected in the Dutch market. This connection probably also led to the arrival of Myron van Brederode. The winger was once considered a great talent at AZ and seemed to break through in Alkmaar. However, after the departure of trainer Pascal Jansen, Van Brederode disappeared further and further from the scene. Under his successor Maarten Martens, he received less playing time and a definitive departure seemed the best option. "Between me and the trainer, it didn't quite work out", Van Brederode said at the time at ESPN. In Belgium, he found new trust and minutes. In nineteen competitive matches, Van Brederode scored five goals and three assists. He also made himself felt once in the cup. His performance, however, increased significantly after the winter arrival of fellow countryman Bouke Boersma. The striker was taken over for around one million euros from De Graafschap, where he scored eleven times in 22 duels in his breakthrough season. With that transfer sum, Boersma belongs to the six most expensive acquisitions in the club's history of Mechelen. Since Boersma has been in the point of attack, Van Brederode seems to be coming into his own. In the three games where the duo started together, Van Brederode was good for two goals and two assists. Boersma himself delivered one assist in his first three appearances, but received direct trust from the technical staff: he started all games in the starting lineup and was only replaced once in injury time. It's still early to draw definitive conclusions, but the first signals are positive. The Dutch tandem must deliver the goals that can take KV Mechelen to a historic place in play-off 1.
