KV Mechelen have made a disappointing start to the season, collecting just two points from their first six matches. Wouter Vrancken's side drew 2-2 with Anderlecht on Saturday evening, bringing their meagre tally to two points from a possible eighteen.
These results leave Mechelen sitting 15th in the Jupiler Pro League table, with two points from six games. The team is yet to win a match, having drawn twice and lost four times. Their goal difference stands at minus nine, having scored five and conceded fourteen.
The draw with Anderlecht represented a missed opportunity to finally secure a victory. Mechelen took the lead twice but were unable to hold on to their advantage on either occasion. "We have to learn to protect a lead," Vrancken said afterwards. "The mentality is there, but concentration at key moments still lets us down sometimes."
The team's recent form has been mixed. Across their last five competitive matches, dating back to last season, Mechelen have recorded one win, two draws and two defeats. Their last victory came against Gent at the start of May. The full list of recent results is available on our stats page.
Next up is a home fixture against league leaders Club Brugge on November 21st. That promises to be a tough challenge, with Brugge currently sitting third in the table. Preparation for that match begins immediately, the club confirmed. Fans can view the full schedule on our fixtures page.
With the international break approaching, Vrancken has time to reassess his squad. The manager stated his primary focus will be on improving defensive organisation. The full KV Mechelen squad for the current campaign is listed on our squad page.
