KV Mechelen are keeping faith in head coach Fred Vanderbiest despite sitting bottom of the Jupiler Pro League. The club's board will give the manager the international break to turn things around.
The team is joint-last after seven matches, having taken just three points from a possible twenty-one. They have scored five goals and conceded fourteen, leaving them with a goal difference of minus nine. Their recent form reads DLLDL, with a 0-0 draw away to Lommel United their last result.
Vanderbiest acknowledged the tough start. "In three of the seven matches we deserved more," the coach said. "Then we would have been comfortably in mid-table. But today I can't blame the lads much. I saw a team that fought again."
The manager stressed that the coming weeks will be all about finishing in front of goal. He now has time to prepare his squad for the next fixture, a home game against STVV on October 10th. The opponents currently sit eleventh.
KV Mechelen will be without the injured Adeshina Ayodele, Leo Fuhr Hjelde and Tijn Van Ingelgom for the upcoming match. The current squad list shows all available players. The pressure to get points against STVV is high, as the gap to leaders Union Saint-Gilloise already stands at sixteen points.
