KV Mechelen has unveiled a new home shirt that celebrates the club's history, specifically the successful 1945-1946 season. The shirt pays tribute to one of the most glorious periods in the club's history, when FC Malinois scored in 35 of 36 league matches and won the second national title. League standing (final 2025 table -- new season not yet under way): 5th in Jupiler Pro League, 45 pts, 12W-9D-9L from 30 games, recent form LDDLW.

What is the historical significance of the shirt?

The new kit commemorates a time when KV Mechelen was one of Belgium's strongest teams. In 1946, after the liberation from World War II, the club celebrated its second national title with a grand public festival. Bertrand Peeters of the Malinwa Archive explains: 'The first title in 1942-1943 could not be celebrated due to German occupation. Only in 1946 could the real party begin.'

Where can you buy the shirt?

The shirt is available in limited quantities starting today. The first 200 copies are in the fanshop, and supporters can also pre-order it via the webshop. The ticket and fanshop is exceptionally open on Monday, August 3.

What does this mean for the current team?

KV Mechelen, which finished 5th in the Jupiler Pro League last season, hopes this shirt will recall the spirit of its glory days. With 39 goals scored and 37 conceded in the previous season, the club will once again compete for a top position. The next match is against Anderlecht (away, 2027-02-13), which finished 6th last season.
