KV Mechelen Strengthens with Matía Barzic
KV Mechelen has signed the Spanish central defender Matía Barzic, a player known for his physical abilities and potential to immediately establish himself in the team. The 21-year-old defender will be under contract for four seasons until summer 2030.
Barzic comes from Elche CF, where he played as a regular starter during their promotion to the Segunda Federación. After his youth career at Atlético Madrid, Barzic moved to Elche in 2023 and had a strong season with Cultural y Deportiva Leonesa, making 36 appearances and scoring two goals.
Croatian Youth International with International Experience
The defender was born in Madrid as the son of a Croatian father and a Spanish mother. While he plays internationally for Croatia, Barzic also represented the Croatian U21 team in six matches.
Barzic will join KV Mechelen in an environment familiar to him, meeting his new teammates Nacho Mirás and José Marsà, both Spaniards who previously came from Spain to play for the Maneblussers.
The signing of Barzic is a strengthening for KV Mechelen's central defense. The 1.90-meter-tall defender has the potential to immediately establish himself as a regular starter and his experience at the second tier in Spain will well prepare him for the challenges he will face in Belgium.
