KV Mechelen has confirmed the departure of Redouane Halhal. The 22-year-old centre-back has signed a four-year contract with Serie A side Venezia FC.

What happened exactly?

Halhal joined KV Mechelen on a free transfer from Atlético Madrid in the summer of 2024 and quickly became a defensive mainstay. He was previously loaned to sister club Helmond Sport, where he continued his development. With KV Mechelen, he secured a place in Play-off 1 and earned a call-up to Morocco’s 2026 World Cup squad.

Why does this matter for KV Mechelen?

Halhal’s exit highlights the club’s ability to nurture young talent. KV Mechelen finished 6th in the 2025 Jupiler Pro League with 24 points from 32 games (12W-10D-10L), scoring 40 goals and conceding 39 for a +1 goal difference. Losing a key defender to a higher league is a testament to their development pipeline.

What comes next?

KV Mechelen must now find a replacement to fill the gap left by Halhal. Their next fixture is away to Anderlecht on 13 February 2027, where they’ll aim to prove their resilience without him.
